Negativism and Mis-management...
lead to a company closing!
I have worked for many companies (as a Temp), and in different fields such as manufacturing; banking; pharmacy; hospital; healthcare insurance; government contractor; engineering; wholesale; retail, etc.

All this has given me valuable experience, to see how companies run
their operations...from the inside...the good, the bad, and the ugly!

DECISIONS; DECISIONS;  which way to go with a company...success
or failure...

During the heart of the recession of the middle 1990's, I worked for a
dreadful company (as a regular for 3 years), who was in the manufacturing business.  They manufactured plastic parts of all types, for heavyweight customers such as Eurika; Apple Computers; General Electric; Singer; Baldwin piano, and so forth.

I hated every day that I went to work in this negative place, but I had no choice...the recession was so bad, that there was nothing else...I had to hang in there for dear life  and endure and tolerate this miserable place, and the people in it!

Negativism; apathy; attitude; little respect for each other; put-down;
gossip; weak management team; terrible decision-making; the buddy
system; defiance; awful image; in one ear, and out the other mentality;
a fist fight or two; a stabbing...theft and the most defeating was shoddy work by employees...it was all here!

A warehouse was filled with re-work and returns, which took almost TEN MONTHS  to clean up! This led to one customer after another packing up their tools, and leaving.  You couldn't blame them!  And, after about a year of customers leaving, there were only three left.  Eurika was the biggest customer and had about a third of the presses on the floor, and when they packed up their bags...the company closed...and, a sign appeared out in front of the company which read:  FOR SALE

The company did not close because of the recession...or because they were moving out of the country...they closed because of negativism and poor leadership by management; poor decision-making and poor quality by employees...simple as that!

The company was not run by a general manager, but by a management team, which consisted of five people, from different departments.  But, there is always one person who dominates in any group.  And, I believe that's what happened here.

The production manager was very agressive; dominant and had a "my way or the highway" attitude.  And, I believe the company went under, because of his poor decision-making; and other management team members not standing up to him.

It's always amazing how much damage one person can do, if he or she is left alone to do so!

And, the experience ( 3 years) I gained for my consulting practice was quite valuable.  Now, I can advise others on how NOT to do things in their work places in the future.
