Out with the old...
and in with the new!
Because of so many technological changes, in a fast-paced society, old positions are being eliminated, and new positions are being created in the work place all the time.

There was an article in the local newspaper, which summarized how the creation of a new position by a local television station, was
helping its ratings, therefore its revenue.

The local television station has occupied the third spot in the ratings war against the other two stations for many years.  There didn't seem to be much hope to increase their ratings.

An idea came up to management, to create a new position, and hire a new person.  It was called "Creative Director" and a few months down the road, the success of the idea became evident.

After several months, the television station was still number three in the ratings, but their numbers had improved substantially.  The article went on to list the reasons for the success, including problem-solving, which it seems like nobody has enough time for anymore, but is crucial in the workplace, more brainstorming, etc.

New positions are created in the workplace all the time!
But, should a position like this be created in the workplace, it could start out as a part-time position.  Today, because of reductions in staff, there are people in the workplace who wear many hats (i.e.) safety director; trainer; and so forth.

Should this position, because of its success, warrant more hours, then it could be changed into a full-time position.

With respect to my consulting practice, I have an open mind to just about everything, and if I start out as a consultant with a company, and there is a possblility of becoming an employee...we can talk about it.

My consulting practice is starting out as a part-time venture (Feb, 2003), so it wouldn't interfere with anything.
