The idea for orange barrel humor all started at the International Balloon Fiesta, which is held in
Albuquerque, New Mexico
where I've lived all my life.  (See Balloon Fiesta)

My favorites are the Special Shapes balloons... such as a piggy bank; old tennis shoe; newspaper; The Ark; Garfield; Boo-Boo Bear, and my favorite has always been the Creamland Cow.

Anyway, I remember watching the Special Shapes, as I mentioned to a friend, that, one of these days, there would be a Special Shape balloon similar to an orange traffic/construction barrel.  We had a little laugh about it. FINALLY...in the Fiesta of 2006, there was a orange traffic barrel hot-air balloon flying in the Fiesta!  Yahoo!

This is about the time the silliness for the orange barrel humor started, and months later I was still getting ridiculous ideas for the orange barrels, etc.  Later, I  went to out in the streets to photograph orange barrels at construction sites around town, that had plenty of orange barrels, cones; barricades, etc.  (people must have thought I was crazy!)

The silliness went on for months, so I made a list of the ideas, but I had no idea at the time, what I was going to do with them.  This is some of the silliest stuff I've ever come up with!

The only thing I could think of to do with the ideas, was for marketing my work...so, that's what I did.  I placed silly clip-art  images and ideas on graph paper, and placed the captions, headlines, etc .  Copies  were made on bright orange paper.  I also bought matching bright orange envelopes, which I put graphics on as well, to send my new "attention-getters" out to be mailed.

I was very pleased with the results, and it didn't take long before the list of ideas came to over 40. But, I cut the list to about 15 or so of ideas I would use.  And, that's what I still have today in the year 2007, I still market my work this way, and of course the preparation for the Bumpy Road of Life show.
